What We Have Been Working on for You: OFVGA Activities Update October 2019
What We're Working on For You
This monthly newsletter is to keep you, our members, informed about what the key issues and files are that OFVGA is currently tackling on behalf of growers.
The Main Focus: Federal election
Normally we lead this update with the top three things we’ve been working on. Like any other month, there's a lot going on, but because Canada is currently in election mode, we've chosen to focus this update solely on the federal campaign, the key issues facing fruit and vegetable growers, and how you can help us get those messages out at the local riding level. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming next month.
We’ve been busy this spring and summer behind the scenes as the federal parties were gearing up for the campaign. Together with the Canadian Horticultural Council (CHC), we’ve been working to make the federal parties aware of key issues affecting fruit and vegetable growers and encouraging them to include those into their election party platforms.
Now that we’re in the midst of the election campaign, we encourage all growers to get involved and contact your local candidates about the issues important to you, your farm business and our broader fruit and vegetable sector.
This could include one on one meetings, going to campaign events, or attending debates or all candidates’ meetings in your riding, for example. Here are some of the key issues for edible horticulture and what we’ve been asking of our federal representatives – you can also check out the election tools on the CHC website for additional information.
