The OFVGA supports Bill 4, Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018
Ontario's cap and trade program has had a significant impact on Ontario's fruit and vegetable farmers over the past couple of years, increasing costs for not just fueling equipment, heating greenhouses, and cooling storage facilities, but also transportation, processing and packaging. The OFVGA recently had the opportunity to interact with the Ontario government on two fronts with respect to the cancellation of the cap and trade program in Ontario.
On October 11, 2018 the OFVGA submitted its comments to the Environmental Registry of Ontario.
On October 15, 2018 the OFVGA had the opportunity to present to the Ontario Legislative Assembly's Standing Committee on General Government.
The submission and the presentation can be accessed on the OFVGA website under the Environment and Conservation Section.
With the repeal of cap and trade in sight, the OFVGA is turning its efforts to ensure that the federal carbon tax does not impact the competitiveness of Ontario's fruit and vegetable farmers.
