Not every horicultural crop is national in scope, nor do they have national "working groups" to provide collaboration for research issues and priorities. The Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (VRIC) has the capability to be the hub for the provincial horticulture science clusters in Ontario.
VRIC will be receiving $3 million per year under the federal-provincial Growing Forward framework through the Provincial Science Clusters Program. The purpose of the funding is:
- to realize the vision of VRIC as a world-class hub for research and commercialization in horticulture
- to fund applied research projects that address the priorities of Ontario horticulture
Projects will require industry matching funds, of which 10 percent must come from non-government sources.
