| The Agricultural Policy Framework (APF) was designed to
make Canada a world leader in food safety, innovation, and
environmentally responsible production.
The APF is comprised of five specific pillars:
- Science and Innovation: advances in science and technology
have long been associated with success in Ontario’s
agriculture and agri-food sector. The programs in this pillar
are designed to make the sector a world leader in innovation.
- Renewal: industry renewal is designed to raise the quality,
availability and adoption of management information, tools,
advice and training; diversify and strengthen the agricultural
economy; and provide opportunities for farm families to
enhance family income.
- Food Safety and Quality: Ontario is committed to continually
strengthening the province’s food safety systems to
provide safe, high quality food for consumers here and around
the world.
- Environment: environmental stewardship is key to the agriculture
and agri-food industry’s long-term vitality and profitability.
The APF strategy includes using Environmental Farm Planning
(EFPs) as a key strategy for improving farm environmental
management.
- Business Risk Management: changes are geared to support
long-term profitability, innovation, and market orientation
with a more decoupled approach.
